06 Jul Take One Picture
Alexandra Primary has taken part in Take One Picture this year. This is a scheme for primary schools, run by the National Gallery, which aims to inspire a lifelong love of art and learning by promoting the role of visual arts within education. The starting point this year was a painting, ‘An Experiment on a Bird in an Air Pump‘ by Joseph Wright ‘of Derby’, painted in 1768. It was pupil led and so each class went on their own creative journey with the following results:
Year 1: Flying birds made out of papier mache.
Year 2: Sculptures of people.
Year 3: Birds sculpted out of clay.
Year 4: Portraits.
Year 5: Birds made out of mod roc.
Year 6 Espana: Stop Start videos trying to create the experience of the bird.
Year 6 El Salvador: Printed posters protesting against using animals in experiments.
We created our own gallery of all our work for the Summer Fair. If you didn’t get a chance to enjoy it, please take a moment to go to the shelter in the playground where you can see our hanging birds. Other work is displayed in the hall. It is well worth a visit. Next step is to submit our work to the National Gallery and see if we get it displayed there. If so, we will all have to go to visit!
